Paola G.

Greene Street Friends School gave Paola, even in a relatively short time, a strong foundation for my education and an attitude toward life. Through the example and direction provided by the teachers, it revealed to me the importance of friendship, the sense of equality, and love among people. Paola learned much of this also through my attendance at Quaker weekly meetings which always will remain ingrained in me.

Grace Dietz (Skippy) F. '29

Grace Dietz F., known to friends and family as Skippy, is a petite woman with a charming smile and penetrating gaze enlivened by a mischievous twinkle. She is a woman of strong religious faith and expressions of that faith infuse her speech. Her lively spirit has changed little since her days as an eighth grade student in 1929. Though she now lives far from the School, in Lake San Marcos, California, Greene Street Friends remains close to her heart.

George L.

George L. is a man with a sonorous voice and an accent that can’t be placed. A sense of order and discipline emanates from it – as if you can hear that his shirt is freshly pressed and his shoes are polished to a high shine. Perhaps his formal manner recalls his teenage years in military service or is a product of his long career as a corporate executive.

Jackie M.

It is not surprising that Jackie M. understands schools. Her husband, Bob, was the head of Media-Providence Friends School and is now headmaster at a school in Brooklyn, New York. But as a graduate of the Class of 1966, Jackie also knows what makes Greene Street special: “There is so much individual attention. Kids are treated with real dignity. I would have been the kid who got lost in the shuffle, but because of small classes, that was not allowed to happen. Whatever success I’ve had, I’d attribute to the early foundation I had there.”
